Nortegas meets with Bizkaia VT managers to give impetus to dual vocational training

  • The opportunities linked to the traditional segments and to the new uses of natural gas and the development of renewable gases are a unique opportunity for young people wishing to foster their initiative, creativity and talent through dual vocational training.
  • Nortegas is bolstering its commitment to the environment where it operates, by committing to innovation and the decarbonisation of the economy and driving sustainable wealth creation.
  • The virtues of natural gas mean it has a key role in the energy transitions in all segments of demand.

Bilbao, 28 November 2019.- Managers of nine vocational training centres visited the Nortegas maintenance centre facilities in Barakaldo on 20 November. They wanted to learn first-hand about how the company is focusing on incorporating new knowledge and talent in its different business areas, by means of its dual training plan.

This visit is part of the IX CEBEK “Business Route” programme, which has worked closely with companies since 2009 for vocational training teachers to discover Bizkaia’s business reality by means of a Programme of Visits to leading companies and which are particularly committed to VT.

Each visit is organised with the aim of highlighting a key aspect of the operating of the company. All the visits include a tour of the premises, where the teachers have the opportunity to see for themselves the latest technologies, production processes, etc. In short, the training centres are provided with an overview of the current situation of the business fabric and its advanced management.

Thus, during the meeting at the Nortegas premises, the training centre managers had the opportunity to learn first-hand about the role played by natural gas in the present and future energy mix as a substitute  for more polluting traditional energies, such as butane, coal, diesel and propane, about  Nortegas’s commitment to the development of renewable gas, along with the general traits of the company’s operations and its training needs. This is all aimed at establishing joint partnership agreements for the future.

Javier Inunciaga, the Nortegas human resources director, summarised the main objectives of the company’s commitment to dual vocational training as “on the one hand, the need to influence the study plans so that they are increasingly better adapted to companies’ real situations. On the other hand, to foster corporate social responsibility by becoming a training company, effectively responding to the needs of the job market and improving employability. Furthermore, to foster the Nortegas values and culture in the students and, finally, to achieve engaged, motivated and involved students”.

Nortegas is committed to dual vocational training as one of the cornerstones for companies to address the specialisation requirements of an ever more changing and competitive market and as a system that, in turn, offers important benefits for the students that opt for this initiative, as they learn in real work situations, acquire first-rate professional experience and improve their future employability.

The company recently cemented its commitment with the incorporation of two dual vocational training students into its Remote Control and Maintenance areas, respectively, with the ongoing support of CEBEK.

After this meeting held with vocational training centre managers, Nortegas will continue to give impetus to its dual vocational training plan, by offering training opportunities to young people who want to foster their initiative, creativity and talent. This is at a key moment for the company, with natural gas at centre stage of the energy transition and of the future energy mix, both in the traditional segments of demand and in its new uses, by means of renewable gas and natural gas for vehicles.

The virtues of natural gas – low emissions, competitive cost, high energy efficiency, existing infrastructures, along with its flexibility – mean it is centre stage of the energy transition in all the segments of demand thus contributing to the NECP targets.

Natural gas will be a fundamental fuel in the sustainable energy matrix of the future, as its stake in the final energy matrix in Spain is forecast to increase up to a relative weight of 19.77% by 2030.
