NORTEGAS releases the YoLeoGas Multidistribuidora digital app to make it easier for its users to take gas readings

  • It is a new digital application that is available for any type of mobile devices and which means that any users of the main gas distributors in Spain, regardless of their retailer, to read their gas meters.
  • The initiative reflects the firm commitment to digitalisation by the different gas distributors, which are working together to facilitate and make more transparent the different formalities associated to billing the energy service.

Bilbao, 17 April 2018.- nortegas releases the YoLeoGas Multidistribuidora mobile application to make it easier for its users to read their gas meters.

It is a shared initiative involving the main gas distributors of Spain – nortegas, Nedgia, Redexis Gas and Madrileña Red de Gas -, which are increasingly more committed to more efficient processes, to digitalisation and to their strong customer service vocation by providing their users with a single application to make it easier to take gas readings.

The new app allows readings to be taken in a user-friendly way using a mobile or a tablet. The user only has to register the number of the CUPS (Supply Point Unified Code that appears in the bill issued by the retailer) in the app and take a photo of the meter. The APP notifies the customer if the photo is correct and sends it to the computer systems of the relevant distributor, which processes it automatically.

The application’s options include configuring notifications for the user to receive an alert when it is time to read the meter. Furthermore, the APP shows the past meter readings so that customers can control their consumption.

The application, which is already available, can be used by all piped gas users in Spain of the application promoter distributors, along with all the existing retailers, which will thus receive online the consumption information of each supply point.

This multi-distributor application will allow companies to go beyond merely comply with the legislative requirement to provide consumers and retailers with a system to report the meter reading.

With the creation of this App, the distributors are seeking to contribute added value for all the stakeholders in the process, as the digitalisation of the reading process makes it quicker and easier for the user, more efficient for all the stakeholders involved – as inconsistencies in the consumption data are avoided -, greater transparency in the formalities associated to billing the service and greater traceability of the process by having a record of the user’s consumption.

The gas sector in Spain

Distributors in Spain are responsible for the development, operation and maintenance of the gas distribution network in Spain, to which over 7.8 million users are connected, according to Sedigas data as of 2017 year end.

In turn, the retailers operating in Spain supply the end user the gas they received from the installations of the distributors.

However, the meter reading process, the necessary step prior to billing the consumption, is the responsibility of the distributors.
