Panadería Osle

Background

Continuing with the family tradition since 1954 and with the constant goal of delighting the palates of the people who visit them, Francisco Oslé and his sister are the third generation of bakers to run their bakery in Gajano, Cantabria.

A bakery’s production directly depends on the energy supply to power the ovens and cook the dough. A failure in the supply would stop production and therefore bring the business to a halt.

In this case, Panadería Oslé had several propane and diesel tanks both to supply the boilers for the residential units and to fuel the bread ovens. Weekly diesel refuelling was therefore needed, with the ensuing uncertainty regarding the supply possibly failing or being dependent on transport logistics, as well as involving an energy surcharge of 30%.

Description of the old facility

The Oslé bakery facility had a 4250-kg LPG or propane gas tank for two boilers (residential units of the families) and a 1000-litre diesel tank to power the bakery’s ovens.

The main drawbacks of the facility were identified: the space taken up by both tanks, the poor performance of the facility and the supply contract management required.

Finally, weekly diesel refuelling was needed, with the critical aspect of a failure in the supply.

Solution provided

Based on the study carried out for Oslé bakery, these tasks were performed to improve its facilities:

  • The reception facility, used to supply two bread ovens and two hot water boilers and heating for the housing units, had to be upgraded to adapt to the Oslé Bakery facilities to natural gas.
  • The customer thus enjoyed considerable energy savings, along with the security of having a continuous supply to ensure production, with an estimated 3-year return on investment.

Results

Thanks to this transformation, the benefits for Oslé Bakery were as follows:

  • 25% savings in fuel, to make their products more competitive.
  • Securing the fuel supply and reducing uncertainty. The fuel tanks no longer need to be filled as they are directly connected to the natural gas network.
  • 25% savings in CO2 emissions, to adapt to the new regulations.
  • Reducing noise pollution levels.
  • Cleanliness and ease-of-use. Streamlined management.
