5 stars and 98 points on the GRESB standard in 2025

Nortegas – the second natural gas distributor on the Spanish market and which operates nearly 8,000 kilometres of networks in Asturias, Cantabria and the Basque Country, and supplies energy to nearly one million households and businesses – has been awarded 5 stars, the highest rating in the GRESB (Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark) and the top recognition possible. This new accolade consolidates Nortegas as one of the gas distributors with the best ESG performance in Europe. GRESB is an international benchmark that uses qualitative and quantitative metrics to assess the environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance of companies. This benchmark has been consolidated as one of most prestigious metrics worldwide to assess the environmental, social and governance performance of infrastructures and companies. The GRESB ranking allows the companies that are best positioned in the green transition and in terms of corporate and social challenges to be identified.

Ongoing transformation

Since it was first rated in 2020, Nortegas has shown steady improvement in quality, accuracy and transparency of the reported information, much of which is public. Thanks to this ongoing transformation, the company has improved its score by nearly 20%; its 98 out of 100 points in 2025 put it in fourth place among the participating gas distributors. This result is the outcome of a continuous improvement and adaptation process to an ever demanding standard, which year after year reviews and increases the assessment criteria. Nortegas’s evolution in GRESB reflects a sustained and coherent corporate strategy, aimed at bolstering its transparency, governance and environmental performance.
