An asphalt plant has very high energy, environmental and fuel consumption requirements. On the one hand, the energy demands of the whole production chain are huge and associated to the volumes of fuel needed. On the other hand, new environmental requirements are gradually introducing emission restrictions, which mean companies have to adapt their solutions to comply with the legislation.<\/p>\n

With that in mind, they were clear at Asfaltos del Nal\u00f3n that they had to take the leap to a new energy source that could balance being both more competitive on the market by means of energy saving, fuel transfer and storage, and adapting to the new environmental regulations. They therefore decided to adapt their production plant to use natural gas.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Existing facility<\/h4>\n

The Asfaltos del Nal\u00f3n facility had a burner in the mixer drying drum that was fuelled by diesel and boilers to heat it.<\/p>\n

Replacing old equipment was an opportunity to renew other units within the plant in order to dismantle the diesel tank. This resulted in greater space being available for other productive operations and storage. Furthermore, Asfaltos del Nal\u00f3n no longer had to worry about checking fuel levels and scheduling deliveries with the supplier.<\/p>\n

Finally, the savings have been great due to the high consumption and Asfaltos del Nal\u00f3n has been positioned as a more competitive company and in line with the current emission levels. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Based on the study carried out for Asfaltos del Nal\u00f3n, these tasks were performed to improve its facilities:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Installation of a new plant for higher yields, along with eliminating emissions and reducing noise.<\/li>\n
  • The facility has been designed based on the Nortegas high pressure network, located at the entrance to the industrial estate. Fuel therefore does not need to be stored.<\/li>\n
  • The new facility has an ERM (Gas Regulation and Measurement Station) which lowers the entry pressure from high to the one needed for the consumption devices, with sufficient capacity to provide the plant with more production equipment or other facilities requiring natural gas.<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n
